Preventive dentistry aims to catch problems before they grow and keep your teeth healthy for many years. A small cavity found early is solved with a simple filling; found late, it may need root canal treatment or a crown.
What does it include?
- Examinations and check-ups: Usually every 6 months, with X-rays if needed
- Scaling and polishing: Removing hardened plaque that brushing cannot
- Tooth-coloured (composite) fillings: Treating cavities with fillings that match your teeth
- Oral care guidance: Advice on the right brush, toothpaste and interdental cleaning for you
Why is scaling important?
Tartar is one of the most common causes of gum inflammation and bad breath. Left untreated, it can lead to gum recession and, eventually, loose teeth. Mild sensitivity for a few days after cleaning is possible.
Frequently asked questions
Does scaling damage enamel?
No. Ultrasonic instruments remove only the tartar, not the enamel. The feeling of gaps between teeth afterwards comes from spaces that the tartar used to fill.
Should I replace my amalgam fillings?
Sound, problem-free amalgam fillings do not always need replacing for that reason alone. If they are broken, cracked or have decay underneath, or if you have aesthetic wishes, replacement is planned together.
